Jordan Telecom inaugurates fiber optic lab

Chief Executive Officer of the Jordan Telecom Group (JTG), Mr. Mickael Ghossein, and President of the Jordan University for Science and Technology (JUST), Mr. Wajeeh Oweis, inaugurated a telecom fiber optic lab in the electrical engineering faculty at the university’s campus, which comes in line with the JTG’s strategy to support knowledge and education.

Mr. Ghossein expressed his delight of this new partnership with a leading educational institution. "Jordan Telecom Group continuously strives to contribute to the development of education in Jordan in line with King Abudullah II’s vision to make Jordan on the same level as the advanced countries in the field of information and communications technology (ICT).

"Committed to Jordan and Jordanians, the Group has always been active, working hard to develop technology and economy. Today, we add another initiative to the existing society initiatives by establishing the telecommunications fiber optic lab in the campus of the Jordan University for Science and Technology which will help employees and students alike," Mr. Ghossein added.

Mr. Ghossein also clarified that Jordan Telecom, which is a member of the Jordan Telecom Group, established the lab knowing that it is an investment for the Group because it prepares a promising generation.  He added that it is also an investment in education, which is an indicator of nations’ progress and it very much agree with the Group's role in different aspects and its vital contribution in the development of Jordan’s various fields.

"Today we are reaping the results of our mutual corporation with Jordan University for Science and Technology; a partnership between the entire telecommunication sector with all its resources and technological infrastructure and the universities sector with all its educational capabilities," Dr. Oweis said.

Dr. Oweiss also added that this inauguration of the fiber optic lab which was equipped by the Jordan Telecom Group came when the world was booming in the ICT field and in response to the increasing demand in both the local and regional market.

Dr. Oweiss also stressed out on the importance of keeping up with the changes and scientific development taking place in the field of fiber optic telecommunications, which records a continuous growth, commending the role of the Engineering Faculty in the university, which is now specialized in many scientific and technical aspects.

The Dean of Electrical Engineering Department Dr. Mohammed Banat demonstrated a comprehensive presentation about the department, which is considered the most prestigious and the largest academic department in the university, locally and regionally, in terms of capabilities and the caliber of the graduates.

Dr. Banat that the telecommunication fiber optic lab comes in line with a full plan the department adopts to reconstruct the specializations and upgrading them to comply with the increase in demand in the work market on a hand and the increase demand in different fields in the electrical engineering on an another hand.

Dr. Banat also stated that the department recently formed an industrial consulting committee which includes a number of corporate engineers with one aim which is to increase the interaction between both the academic and the industrial sectors that serve development, expanding educational plans and research operations.

The attendees went through an educational presentation on the important equipment in the lab which is used to serve this program and the rest of the programs and activities the telecom fiber optic lab project and electrical engineering department in general.
