Jordan Telecom Group cooperates with HOPPECKE to recycle used batteries


As part of its efforts in environmental protection and as a reflection of its commitment towards the community, Jordan Telecom Group “Orange” signed an agreement with HOPPECKE by virtue of which the latter will recycle old liquid batteries used by Orange in operational sites. HOPPECKE, which is licensed to recycle batteries by the Ministry of Environment, will dispose of liquid batteries in a way that is consistent with environmental protection conditions.

The agreement was signed by Jordan Telecom Group CEO Mr. Mickael Ghossein, and Orange Mobile CEO Mrs. Majd Shweikeh on behalf of Orange, and by Eng. Mr. Mohammad Fadel Al Tarawneh the manager of recycling factory of HOPPECKE, in the presence of Abu Khader Group CEO, Mr. George Abu Khader who received the agreement from Mrs. Shweikeh.

Mr. Ghossein stressed the particular importance of this agreement, which provides safe environmental solutions for the disposal of used liquid batteries, thus contributing in protecting the environment. "This step is an initiative of high importance, by which the Group is aiming to dispose of liquid batteries in an environmentally friendly way that protects our environment from the dangers of the material used to manufacture such batteries. This comes in line with Jordan Telecom Group’s commitment and responsibility towards the local community,” said Mr. Ghossein.

Mrs. Shweikeh pointed out that the Group is using liquid batteries as an alternative energy source to keep its towers, operators and stations working in case of any disruption in electric power supply. She also pointed out the importance of disposing of batteries after using it in a responsible and environmentally friendly way, in order to protect the environment and community from hazardous results.”

For his part, Eng. Tarwaneh highlighted the cooperation between Jordan Telecom Group and HOPPECKE in the recycling process of used liquid batteries. “We work in our factory to recycle used batteries that are considered dangerous waste due to their harmful contents like lead and acid. We hope that other companies and institutions will follow Jordan Telecom Group’s steps to protect the community and the environment from the risks of improper destruction and burning of used batteries,” said Eng. Tarwaneh.

Jordan Telecom Group “Orange” is working on signing a number of other agreements with companies licensed by the Ministry of Environment, to dispose of burned oil and dangerous solid materials through recycling, ensuring proper destruction in ways that do not harm the environment. The Group is also aiming to acquire the ISO14001:2004 environmental management certificate.
