Orange mobile calls on prepaid lines subscribers to register personal information

(Amman, March 6, 2008): In accordance with the second campaign of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), Orange mobile is facilitating the registration of personal information of mobile subscribers whose information is not listed at the company. As in the first campaign, Orange mobile is alerting its prepaid subscribers to the importance of registering personal information, in any of the company’s 48 shops distributed throughout the Kingdom, to authenticate their subscriptions.

Yanal Shwayyat Head of Marketing of Orange Mobile said: “Our call for our subscribers to quickly respond to the TRC’s campaign stems from our firm belief in individuals’ right to protect their personal property, including phone lines. We are encouraging our subscribers to come forward because we care about preserving their confidentiality and the mutual trust we have established. This campaign, which conforms to the license agreements of all mobile operators, is a security procedure to protect subscribers and avert any misuse of lines by unknown persons.” He continued to explain that the registration procedures takes only a single visit to one of Orange’s shops where the subscriber only needs to bring along a copy of his/her personal ID card, or any document to prove the identity for non-Jordanians by May 31st, 2008.

Shwayyat explained that Jordan Telecom Group completely supports the campaign launched by the TRC due to the importance of registering personal information by all subscribers. And accordingly, Orange mobile will send instructions and reminders to unregistered subscribers to encourage them to respond to the TRC’s decision, and to warn them against disconnecting their lines in case they did not register their personal information.

Orange mobile had always instructed its subscribers, distributors and points of sale to register their personal information of subscribers by highlighting the process as a condition in the prepaid line subscription contract. Orange mobile continues to be committed to this issue for the purpose of protecting citizens’ interests.
