Amman: Wednesday 16 May 2007
In line with Orange’s belief towards contributing to the build up of Jordanian youth capabilities, skills and the development of their efficiencies, Orange signed an Agreement with the Jordanian Basket Ball Federation, whereby Orange sponsors the school and universities tournament for the annual 2007/2008 season. The Agreement was co-signed by the JTG CEO Mr. Mickael Ghossein, Engineer Abdul Raheem Biqaee the Federation Vice President, and Engineer Nabil Abu Ata, Secretary General of the Federation.
Expressing his pleasure for Orange’s sponsoring this Jordanian sports event, Mr Ghossein said “Orange plays a pioneering role by supporting communities that it operates within. We are supporting the Jordanian Basket Ball Federation in every way, in a bid to alleviate the level of Jordanian sport in general, and that of basket ball in particular, to reach international levels. We shall endeavour to trigger youth capabilities in schools and universities, with a view of enhancing the Federation’s work with such skills that would enable it to perform and compete internationally.”
Ghossein added during the press conference held on the occasion of signing the Agreement: “signing this agreement comes today in light of the positive results rendered through the partnership between the Jordan Telecom Group, which is part of the France Telecom Group that carries the Orange brand, and the Jordanian Basket Ball Federation. We have worked together to shed more light on many young skills, polishing such skills and enhancing them through training, to upgrade Basket Ball in Jordan and support the youth. Today, we renew this fruitful cooperation, and include Orange sponsorship of all Jordanian Youth Federation basket ball activities in the school and universities tournaments.”
On his part, Engineer Abdel Raheem Al Biqaei thanked Orange on its generous support for school and universities tournament this season. “The existing cooperation between Orange and the Federation shall endeavour to support the Federation’s plan to build a generation of basket ball players from all age groups. The aim of the Federation is to establish a wide platform of national team players capable of upgrading the Jordanian representation in international arenas. The Federation shall also endeavour to implement its vision towards professional basket ball practicing, within a strategy the Federation is endeavouring to implement towards spreading the game’s culture and expanding its platform, a move that has been blessed by His Royal Highness Prince Hamzeh Ibn al Hussein, the Federation’s honorary President,” Al Biqaei said.
“The fact that the universities tournaments are continuing for the third year running, and are starting to prepare for the fourth schools tournament, are themselves a proof of the success of these programmes, which wouldn’t have been possible without the major support provided by Orange to different Federation programmes”.
Engineer Nabil Abu Ata, the Federation’s Secretary General, expressed as well the pride of the Jordanian basket ball family to have merited the Orange sponsorship, stating that this real partnership between the Federation and the Jordan Telecom Group, which has been in existence for the past three years, is one of the main reasons of the Federation’s programme continuation to-date. Carrying this partnership further with Orange today, will allow the Federation to launch a new platform of professional players and to discover new national talents in the game through universities tournaments, and those of basic and secondary schools. Abu Ata asserted further the Federation’s insistence to continue providing programmers that expand the platform of basketball, for it to reach every part of the Kingdom, through a number of activities such as school and universities tournaments, national children’s tournament, discovering talents project, children team centres in the governorates.
